Gilimanuk harbor resumes operation

The Gilimanuk ferry harbor on the western tip of the island resumed operations Friday after being closed for Nyepi on Thursday.

"Everything has returned to normal, the passengers from Ketapang ferry harbor in Banyuwangi, East Java, have begun gradually entering Bali," Gilimanuk's operational manager Ospar Silaban said.

Gilimanuk is the only ferry harbor that connects Bali with its neighboring island of Java.

Silaban disclosed the number of passengers leaving Bali for Java in days prior to Nyepi increased by 21 percent compared to the figure recorded in 2008. In the period from March 23 to 25 the total number of passengers was more than 39,000, with more than 9,000 motorbikes and 8,000 cars
